In this Q&A, Kimberlee Borland Gibbs, SVP, Group Director, Business Leadership, NY, shares her experience in experiential marketing as we mark Women’s History Month…
Who has empowered you on your journey as a female leader, and why?
A woman from my hometown of Anchorage, Alaska, showed me what it truly means to lead with compassion, integrity and excellence. Now retired, Vara Allen-Jones leaves behind a meaningful legacy at the University of Alaska Anchorage, one that reflects the importance of giving back and supporting those who follow in your footsteps. Though she never sought the spotlight, she was consistently recognized and admired by her students, colleagues, and university leadership for the impact and dedication she demonstrated throughout her career. As I have seen with Mrs. Allen-Jones, my aim is for colleagues, clients and partners to consistently experience my commitment to excellence in my work, leadership by example and a steadfast respect for others, maintained even in challenging moments or when perspectives differ.
The theme for this year’s Women’s History Month is “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future.” In your opinion, what can women do to empower the next generation of leaders to ensure the world becomes more resilient, resourceful, and equitable?
Women can empower the next generation of leaders by modeling purpose-driven leadership, investing in mentorship, and creating pathways for others to grow and succeed. By sharing knowledge, advocating for equitable opportunities and encouraging innovative thinking, women can help cultivate leaders who are resilient, resourceful, and committed to building a more sustainable and inclusive future.
Can you share an example of how the Employee Resource Group (ERG) ‘Women of Momentum’, has “led the change” to shape a sustainable future through impactful work and by making belonging matter?
Our Women’s ERG has led meaningful change by fostering an environment where women are supported and valued at every stage of their personal and professional journeys. Through initiatives that create space for survivors, new mothers, caregivers and those seeking guidance in navigating their careers, the group has reinforced a culture where belonging truly matters. By encouraging open dialogue, mentorship and peer support, Women of Momentum provides a trusted and inclusive space for individuals to seek guidance, share experiences and build resilience, helping to shape a more supportive and sustainable future for our workforce.
