As an experience creation agency, our team’s daily experiences mean a lot to us. Join our interns as they share their experiences via a multi-part blog series chronicling their summer journey here at Momentum.
On Monday June 6, a group of 15 eager young interns came together in a highly air conditioned room on the second floor of 250 Hudson Street in New York City.
After calming our nerves, grabbing a cup of coffee, and breaking the “who will be the first person to grab a bagel” tension, the 2016 Summer EQUAT/ON Internship Program was launched. From meetings to presentations, scavenger hunts to tours of the office, we filled our brains with information and we were all eager to be immersed in Momentum’s work environment. The first two days of introductions were impactful—everyone in the room was star struck, in awe of Momentum’s culture and values. I couldn’t stop thinking about how lucky I was to work for a company like this one. Although nervous for the weeks ahead, I was excited to start learning and working.
After joining my team, American Express music, I already learned more than I could have imagined. In these first two weeks, I have learned that detail and teamwork mean everything. As students, we strive, work and achieve to benefit ourselves and our own education. Working with the American Express Music team, I am striving, working, and achieving for the team; I am accountable for my actions as a team member. I’ve seen the importance of detail, executing work in a timely matter, and remembering the work does not just reflect on me as an individual, but upon my co-workers and my clients. As millennials, we often expect instant gratification for all the work we’ve done, so it’s been a learning experience to see how much time is put into one project or assignment. By watching everyone communicate with one another, care about the work and take initiative, I see what makes a successful team.
I am passionate about music and music festivals such as Coachella, so being a part of the American Express Music team is really exciting for me. Although I’m still in shock that I am lucky enough to be exposed to this side of the industry, I am ready to learn, gain “real-world” experience, and see how Momentum impacts my future career path.
It is so refreshing to be in an environment of professionals who want to further their careers and influence the industry with innovation and creativity. The inspiring work that is being created among different teams and departments has motivated me to explore Momentum as much as I can within the next few weeks. I want to learn all that the company has to offer as well as learning from the people I am working with. I am beyond excited for the next six weeks to share memories and experiences with not only my team and peers, but with everyone in the office.
