Momentum Releases New Environmental Installation White Paper

Sept 09

As part of our commitment to the POPAI Green Project, Momentum has developed the first ever environmental white paper for use in the installation and merchandising of point of purchase displays.

The new guidelines are designed to educate brands, retailers and other agencies about different ways to minimise the impact of POP implementation on the environment. The guide looks at all stages of a POP implementation project, from planning and scheduling , through to logistics, fuel efficiency, de-installation and recycling.

The following tips can help brands and retailer save time and money whilst also reducing their carbon footprint. For a full version of our environmental white paper, please email sales@momentum-uk.com.

1) Start at the drawing board
POP installation is intrinsically connected to the initial design and production stages of a display—the size, weight and complexity of the kit will determine the size of vehicles needed and thus the amount of carbon emissions during transportation. Momentum believes that any POP manufacturer and installation agency should work together to produce an installation-friendly design that will save money in the longer term.

2) Project Management is King
Sound project management is fundamental to the success of POP implementation. Brands and retailers need to work with an agency that explores the complexities of a brief, provides a clear line of communication to all parties and understands different retail estates. It is also important that the agency knows how to optimise the project schedule and has the reporting technology in place to give them full visibility of the project's progress.

3) Trial and Error
An installation trial prior to a full-scale roll-out should take place to trouble-shoot any common problems and overcome any difficult scenarios.

3) Trial and Error - continued
The information learned at the trial stage can help reduce the amount of wasted journeys or aborted visits in the future, thus saving mileage and money!

4) Recycle and Re-use
Depending on the design and materials used, old POP displays can be broken down into their component parts ready for recycling or reuse. This can help to sustain resources and reduce the amount of kit taken to landfill. It is best to work with an agency that can offer advice on correct environmental disposal and recycling services.
